Kehinde Wiley, "An Economy of Grace"

Historical portraits of society women by Jacques-Louis David, Thomas Gainsborough and John Singer Sargent, among others, inspire the artist's first forays into depicting female subjects. Adding to the Metropolitan Museum vibe, the work is displayed on walls painted a deep shade of blue. Another first for Wiley: this show, which represents his gallery debut.
