Opened in 2013, Nahmad Contemporary is a youngish space with an old lineage: The Nahmad family has been in the gallery business since paterfamilias Giuseppe Nahmad set up shop in Milan in 1957. Nahmad Contemporary is the brainchild of Giuseppe's grandson, Joseph, and represents the first Nahmad foray into dealing contemporary art. Given the family's history and deep art-world connections, however, this is no mere start-up; it's located in the same building as Larry Gagosian's UES flagship and collector Adam Lindemann's venture into dealing, Venus. Nahmad Contemporary has quickly established a track record for hosting blue-chip showings of art-market darlings such as Richard Prince and Sterling Ruby.
