Pat Steir, "Winter Paintings"

Steir's newest canvases continue her exploration of a technique she's used since the late 1980s: pouring layers of paint thinned with oil down the face of her compositions to create "waterfalls" of color. These "collaborations with gravity," as the artist calls them, result in works of unusual power and subtlety.
