Sometimes, excess is the key to success, which is most definitely the case in this vivid installation by Mexican-born, Brooklyn artist Raúl de Nieves. Featured are sculptures and reliefs covered in skeins of plastic beads and costume jewelry, ranging in color from solid white to bright, rainbow hues. Mask like faces peek out from wall panels and abstract aggregations resembling coral reefs, while the show’s centerpiece features a sort of enthroned yeti made of white fur and fake pearls. All of it shelters under a drop ceiling made of stained glass, creating a kind of chapel in which the spiritual collides with the outré.
