Damien Hirst's spots give way to Lichtenstein's signature benday dots in this show, featuring a series completed the year before Lichtenstein's death, in 1997. Instead of comic books, the subject this time is traditional Chinese painting, particularly from the Song dynasty (920–1279). Using his familiar cartoon style, Lichtenstein captures the subtle atmospheric effects that were a hallmark of works from that period. Gagosian's previous surveys of Lichtenstein's art were nothing short of spectacular, and this one should be no different.
