"Sanford Biggers: Sweet Funk-An Introspective"

Biggers's first New York museum survey is a select affair of 13 pieces, each featuring the artist's customary exploration of race and cross-cultural currents, as well as his very deep interest in music. The centerpiece here is Blossom, an installation that consists of a piano intersecting a tree—the latter referencing everything from America's ugly history of lynching to the Buddha's enlightenment under the bodhi tree.
