Something of a jack-of-all-mediums, Landers, over the course of his 20-odd-year career, has produced a diverse range of paintings, sculptures, drawings and videos. But they've been united by a not entirely tongue-in-cheek meditation on the male psyche, unmoored in a world where male privilege doesn't count for as much as it used to (supposedly). Exhibit A has been, of course, Landers himself, whose incessant self-reflection mixes narcissism and self-deprecation in equal measure—especially in the recurring motif of a circus clown meant to represent the artist's inner life. In the series of paintings here, Landers sends this alter ego on an epic ocean voyage, presumably of self-discovery.
