Steven Roden, "Ragpicker"

The original notebooks of German philosopher and cultural critic Walter Benjamin served as inspiration for this L.A. artist's painting—though not because of their content. Instead, Roden says he was enraptured by the letter forms in the books, which he apparently spent hours staring at.
