Shaped canvases are shaping up to be a trend at UES galleries, first with Frank Stella's "Polish Village" series at Van Doren Waxter, and now with this intergenerational survey of the style. The title is a nod to the Guggenheim's seminal "The Shaped Canvas" exhibition from a half century ago, and while the form was indeed rooted in early-’60s space-age optimism, the show demonstrates how various artists have revived the idea during the ensuing decades.
