Former mayor John V. Lindsay commissioned "adventure playgrounds"—to encourage running around and interactive play—in Central Park in the ’60s and ’70s, some of which survive to this day. Tonight, Richard Dattner, architect of Central Park's Egypt-themed Ancient Playground (1972), will tie these kids' spaces to our evolving understanding of the psychology of child's play.
