Time Out says

Cartoons weren't all bunnies and putty tats in the 1700s. Charles Coypel, the personal painter for Louis XV, created a comic-fiction series of 28 paintings that were woven into tapestries. Through March 17 you can see a complete series, as well as five of Coypel's original paintings, on exhibit in New York for the first time.
