As the neighborhood awaits the redevelopment of the former Domino Sugar factory, part of the surrounding area has been transformed into a temporary public space, with a grassy lawn, terraced seating, an open-air reading room, an urban farm run by
North Brooklyn Farms and the first (legal) mountain-bike course in the borough: Brooklyn Bike Park, which gives beginners a taste of pump tracks (a series of minihills) and obstacles (rocks, logs) as they develop basic skills. Rentals (including helmets) are available, and free for kids and during special events. Havemeyer also hosts free outdoor movie screenings, the occasional musical performance, and yoga, pilates and jazzercise classes.
