Time Out says

Gotham native Will Eisner (1917–2005) put his hometown at the heart of his illustrated works: Central City was a thinly veiled replica of New York in his classic graphic novel The Spirit. The city pops up in his autobiographical books as well as his paintings. The museum collected more than 100 of Eisner's renderings of New York, showing it in the kind of light only a native could shine.
