In the land of tropical overkill, there are 50 types of rum to spice up the mojitos, bright fluorescent lights, free salsa lessons at 7pm, waitstaff in getups that look almost like costumes—yet somehow the feel-good atmosphere is what you recall most. A mature but avid group fills the Mambo Lounge, and there are occasional live bands. If the patrons would just take a break from dancing, they could order Colombian arepas and other Latin American treats.
