Drink like a Frenchman
Split a bottle of Jenlain Ambre from Brasserie Duyck ($26), a light, amber ale with a gentle sweetness, or Castelain Blonde in the style of Bire de Garde (330ml $15), a bright blond with hints of plum and honey, at Daniel Boulud's downtown sausage spot. Drink like an Australian
Forget Foster's; quaint Nolita bar and restaurant Eight Mile Creek is all about Coopers, especially the Sparkling Ale on tap ($8). It's fruity with a hoppy bite and a natural cloud of sediment, which is yeast that keeps the beer from fermenting further after brewing. , 240 Mulberry St at Prince St (212-431-4635, eightmilecreek.com)

Drink like a Czech
Central European restaurant Hospoda serves Pilsner Urquell exclusively on draft ($6--$8) in order to showcase different pouring styles, such as snyt (extra foamy) and cochtan (no head). All cooled to the same temperature, the kegs are visible though a glass floor at the bar. Hospoda, 321 E 73rd St between First and Second Aves (212-861-1038, hospodanyc.com)

Rowdy midtown beer hall Bierhaus NYC has Munich's very own Hofbru on tap, poured in five styles including the Dunkel ($8), a dark lager with a light body and hints of caramel and roasted malt. Bierhaus NYC, 712 Third Ave at 45th St (212-867-2337, bierhausnyc.com)

Drink like the Japanese
Order hard-to-find beers like the Ozeno Yukidoke IPA ($14), a potent pale ale with strong undertones of grapefruit and hop resin, and the Coedo Beniaka, an earthy, sweet lager made from sweet potatoes, at a modern Chelsea gastropub. Izakaya Ten, 207 Tenth Ave between 22nd and 23rd Sts (212-627-7777, izakayaten.com)

Drink like a Brazilian
They serve something in Rio besides caipirinhas: Try the Xingu Black Beer ($6), a dark lager that tastes of coffee and molasses. Miss Favela, 57 South 5th St at Kent Ave, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (718-230-4040, missfavela.com)

Dublin brewery Porterhouse finally hit U.S. shores this year, pouring unique brews like the silky Oyster Stout ($8). It's sweetened by the fresh-shucked oysters used in the brewing process.
