Most folks have heard of this Union Square standby for its food and posh scene, but the spot’s lesser-known watering holes deserve some recognition too. One is a petite semiprivate room; the other a sleek, simple subterranean lounge. Count on strong mojitos and a steady stream of chill music from the DJ booth.

Ubiquitous stand-by right off union square. A sort of traditional American-Brazilian 24-hour style diner with a noisy hustle and bustle. Sometimes there are really long waits, and when the weather is nice there's outside seating. Not really worth the wait, and the staff always seems a little rushed. But, quality, relatively inexpensive food - long menu, full bar, and lots of coffee to wash it down.

Coffee Shop is an hidden gem tucked away on a corner in Union Square. Enter under the neon Coffee Shop sign, you can't miss it. Be prepared for more than just coffee. It's an eclectic joint with a variety of food and drinks. There is something for everyone. For my GF friends out there, they have plenty of GF options. I had a late night grilled cheese that was to die for. A frozen marg accompanied my grilled cheese and I have to say it was a little weak. Give an on the rocks marg a try.

There aren't many places in this city that are much cooler than Coffee Shop. They are open 23 hours a day, so feel free to drop by pretty much anytime. You can have a great breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, or late night snacks all served to you by very attractive wait staff. Coffee Shop’s eclectic menu offers upscale diner type food as well as some fantastic Brazilian favorites like feijoada, a hearty stew which is the national dish of Brazil. The drinks are killer too, so be sure to have a mojito or caipirinha. A touch of lively Brazilian culture in Union Square, what could be better?
