Hogs & Heifers

Don’t get too creative with your orders here—“With a shot of what?” was the bartender’s reply to a request for water. The onetime biker bar still has echoes of its bad-boy glory days: Suds ($2 PBR) and shots ($4 Bacardi) are served by barely clad hotties. The drunken patrons who surrendered their bras are immortalized by the wall of lingerie behind the bar. The crowd usually includes a tourist or three, but it’s still worth going to gawk.

It's a nice relief from the high end, high culture nightclubs and hotels in the notorious meat-packing district, but be fore-warned it is comically low brow, disgusting, and obscene. The alcohol comes cheap and fast - you never know how drunk the other clientele or bar-maids will be, and they will pressure you to get wild (maybe even with loudspeakers). The atmosphere is like a saloon and the walls are littered with bras. But as a place to really unwind, and get 'turned up' one of the best spots in the area.

The Man on the Street

Started our night with excellent Mexican food at Dos Caminos then went for cocktails at the uber trendy Ganesvoort rooftop bar. It was pretentious beyond belief with tables reserved for those wiling and wanting to spend hundreds of dollars on drinks. We stayed for one but decided to head for fun and reality at Hogs. Oh yes - right decision. The place was rocking. Barstaff abused customers , downed shots and danced on the bar to classic rock anthems. Got talking to real people - drank our own bodyweight in Pabst Blue Label and downed a few Fireballs. Feel like shit today, but have memories on one mighty fun night out in NY.

recent visit to nyc got to spend about an hour-and-a-half at the heifer, the beer was cold, the bartenders were great, the music was loud and old school...a perfect early evening jump start, would have loved to spend the night just to see the place full up
