Named for a long-defunct Prospect Heights chicken shop, this bar has popped up in what was once an auto-repair garage. On sunny days, the 12 tap beers—including craft labels like California’s Nectar Pale Ale—can be enjoyed in the spacious front garden (a corner lot that until recently was home to several rusty old junkers). A stationary food truck serves smashed burgers, tacos and other booze-friendly grub.

Great outdoor seating for nicer days. And they have a cozy firepit going in the fall.

I went to Hot Bird for the first time over July 4 weekend, so needless to say, it was very quiet, but I would assume this was more indicative of the New Yorker holiday weekend disappearing act than the general popularity of the bar, because the layout and design were pretty phenomenal. There is a generous outdoor backyard with a ton of seating room, which is great for a cool summer day/night. The inside itself is also super cool, with old industrial tools strewn about, which felt very fifth grade field trip to Colonial Williamsburg (but like, driven there by a Motorcycle gang instead of a yellow school bus). Definitely worth noting that the bar is cash only.
