Bars have been borrowing design cues from ski lodges and log cabins for decades. In the space formerly known as Black Star, a few vintage skis hang on the walls along with some worn signs, but the vibe is more generic than it is kitsch. A pool table awaits hustlers in the rear, flat-screen TVs perch in the corners and a video-game console sits on the bar. Two things make the place worth a visit: a back room decorated with ornate, antique-looking couches and chairs (open for special events); and bottles of Rheingold selling for just $2 after 2am.
