Mermaid’s

Tucked away underneath Astoria’s elevated subway line lies an unlikely hybrid. This cabaret/go-go dancing/sports bar is not a gentleman’s club per se, but the atmosphere might suggest otherwise. Dancers gyrate to Greek and Latin beats on a narrow stage at the center of the circular oak bar, while bartenders pour strong, high-priced cocktails, such as a Seven and Seven or a rum and Coke. Mermaids may not be a treasure in an ocean of bars in Queens, but it is definitely a different world.
