There's no shortage of brown-spirits peddlers in Williamsburg (Post Office, the Whiskey Brooklyn). But at this serious watering hole, whiskey joins forces with another resurgent epicurean darling—locavore grilled cheeses. Studious boozers can choose from more than 225 selections, including George Dickel Old No. 8 Tennessee Whisky, Johnnie Walker Blue Label and Old Potrero 19th Century Straight Rye Whiskey. Pair yours with one of seven melted-cheese sammies, like the Jane (New York sharp cheddar and My Friend’s Mustard on sourdough) or the Maefred (Brie, local mushrooms and rosemary on ciabatta), made with Orwasher's bread. The old-timey joint, which is named after a onetime Brooklyn creek, features a coffered ceiling, pine banquettes and lamps fashioned from amber medicine jars.

What's not to love about a whiskey and grilled cheese bar? They're two beautiful things, and when you put them together, magic happens. Noorman's Kil has a super friendly staff, a great selection of whiskey cocktails, and a rotating list of awesome craft beers for those who want to stick to booze. But let's talk about those sandwiches. You get to watch them being made right in front of you, and once your choice arrives, you won't be disappointed. The Jane is a popular choice, but don't sleep on the Betsy, which packs just the right amount of sweet with salty. Bonus: there's a happy hour, and a very large backyard. Cheap drinks and $5 grilled cheeses while sitting outside with a group of friends? Yes please. This place is a winner.
Noorman's Kil is my favorite whiskey bar in the city. Sitting right on the main drag of Grand St in E. Williamsburg, Noorman's Kil is a cute, minimalist bar with an easygoing vibe. It also has a wonderful selection of whiskeys, bartenders who can help you figure out what you like, an EXCELLENT hot toddy and a variety of craveable grill cheeses for when you get ravenous. I walked into this bar knowing I liked Laphroaig and walked out knowing about five other whiskeys in the same family. I also feel like it’s a good place to meet other people because it’s specialized, small and has that chill vibe.
