Vanderbilt Avenue’s nightlife swirls around Soda Bar, a former sundae shop where locals congregate for killer happy hours and bulging burgers. Punch up some indie rock on the jukebox, or catch the occasional live show, then relax in the lounge or on the summer-perfect patio.

I'm permanently scarred by the time a waitress at Soda insisted on putting 30 people on one cheque. Their waiter service is consistently spotty - sometimes you're supposed to order at the bar, sometimes it's verboten, sometimes it changes while you're there. The bathroom situation varies dramatically. Sometimes it's very dark and loud, other times the lights are on all the way and they're playing the Mariah Carey Christmas Album. The furniture is pretty gross, but it's like those coffee shops we all loved in college. They have a fake fireplace.
Regardless, they have a back yard and lots of space. It's also the only place I've been where there have been TWO lesbian book club meetings in the same night. For all the ups and downs, it's a good spot with a friendly crowd and cheap beers.
