Bolstering the quirky-cool factor at this Ditmas Park watering hole is a unique mercantile marriage: The spot is a flower shop by day and a tavern by night. Observe the Cheers-brand chill at the long, illuminated, resin-topped bar. Choose from more than two-dozen bourbons, and beers on tap ranging from comforting standbys like Bud and Guinness to microbrews, like the fruity, hop-heavy Goose Island Honker’s Ale. Add a cozy (unheated) patio and a free jukebox, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a better backdrop for a round of cold ones—or an occasional bouquet.

Cortelyou Roads has to be one of the most underrated streets in Brooklyn, but because of that, it's also one of my favorites. The perfect low-key local night to me is going to Mimi's Hummus for dinner and coming to Sycamore straight after.

Sycamore was ahead of most trends: huge whiskey selection, even more whiskey's boom; different day/night concepts (flower shop by day, bar by night)--not to mention a beer & bouquet for $10; pop-up events, such as a monthly zodiac party; trivia; and rotating food trucks/vendors in the back. It's your perfect neighborhood bar. And the fact that it's a block away from a firehouse where the guys frequently come in, doesn't hurt either ;)
