Young(ish) crowds gather at this unpretentious, sparsely decorated LES standby. Bring bills to feed the eclectic jukebox, and peel off a few more for the $2.50 well-drink and draft happy hour (daily 5–8pm). On Sunday nights, locals cram the joint for a top-shelf nightcap (everything is

half price after midnight).

Hesitant to write this review because I don't want anyone to know about this place. The Magician might have the best happy hour deal in the city, but no matter what night of the week you go, it will never be packed. How is that possible in a town where a Bud Light will regularly set you back $8? Beats me.

Happy hour at The Magician means all draft beers-including a pretty respectable selection of ales, IPAs, and pilsners- are just 3 bucks, as are well drinks.

3 dollars. For a decent beer. At a bar. In New York City.

There has to be a catch, I'm convinced. Maybe they've been spiking my drinks with a (very slowly acting) mind control serum that simply hasn't taken effect yet. But when it does, rest assured this place will have full control over my life.

Screw it, in the meantime I'll still enjoy their happy hour.
