The Up & Up

Time Out says

Sandwiched between a tattoo shop and a Vietnamese joint, you could easil stroll right past The Up & Up. But don't, because this stylish basement bar is worth delving down into, if only to be mesmerised by the incredible wallpaper prints. If you don't know them already – and you haven't been to their Gramercy sister bar, Stay Gold – then you're in for a retro treat. The decor is all wood and vintage posters, while the craft cocktails follow suit in the kind of low and highball glasses that wouldn't look out of place in Don Draper's office.

The mixologists behind the bar will delight your sense with concoctions like those in the Un Presdente: rum, sherry, Curaçao liqueur and grenadine, which comes in a neat glass flask to boot. For the less adventurous, there are classics too, including G&T (with a splash of bitters, naturally) and rum and Coke (albeit white rum from sugarcane with a cola tincture).

The cocktails take centre stage at The Up & Up, but there is a snack menu to sate any hunger pangs. This features finger foods like cheese puffs, 'fancy' fruit and nuts, and French cheeses.
