The Well

Bars, Beer bars Central Brooklyn
5 out of 5 stars

Vets of the Knitting Factory bring a massive 14,000-square-foot beer garden to the ’Burg. The joint—housed in a former brewery with 30-foot ceilings and brick walls inset with kegs—doubles as a live music venue featuring big-name acts like hip-hop artist Cam'ron, Latin psych-rock band Os Mutantes and British rocker Peter Murphy. Sixty taps pour brews (Sixpoint, Captain Lawrence, Greenport Harbor) at a long wood bar, but Williamsburg's new moneyed set can blow it out with the 30-bottle champagne list.

Great space for hosting an event (or two). One of the biggest perks of this space is its sheer size. Yes, that's a little more standard in the Williamsburg/Bushwick area than in NYC, but it's able to host multiple events at once with little issue in the back space alone.

I went a few weeks back for a Halloween party complete with DJ sets and inflatables, and I truly don't think we were a nuisance to the beer garden/tasting situation happening on the plot next door. Plenty of room for both parties to go inside, and the bathroom line was never a mess.

They've partnered with Hooch, so you can get a free first drink from a selection of three, and then from there the beer options are endless. I did find it strange that we couldn't take cans outside (had to put them in cups), but I think that might have been because I was dressed as a dinosaur and therefore deemed irresponsible.

Rumor had it the food in the back is pretty solid, but I did not personally do a taste test.

There's a lot to love about this new Williamsburg/Bushwick bar - and I'm not just talking about the massive square footage.  Aside from the 40+ beers on draft, the inside is full of comfortable chairs and seating, while the outside is coated in neighborhood murals, picnic tables, and cornhole (the best way a bar can find a permanent place in my heart).  The menu is massive - it would be impossible to not find a drink you like - and the $2 Draft promotion on Tuesdays is reason enough to go despite service being really slow.  If you're in the area and need to stop somewhere to rest your feet, grab a drink, and hang out - go here.

I went here, finally, on a rainy weekend to sit and have a good beer, and I was not disappointed. You cannot go wrong with this beer list—even if you close your eyes and point randomly on the menu, your choice is sure to be good. I had two that were delicious: the Lavandula Juniperus gose from Leipzig, very light and floral and not at all like other goses I've had, and the Smoking Wood Mole stout from the Bruery. So delicious, and I've never seen beer from the Leipzig brewery anywhere else. Also, the bartender was super into beer and very chatty, and after we bonded over a love of stouts, he gave me a sample of one with chili pepper in it. The space is huge and beautiful, and I'm really excited to go in the summertime.

If you're a beer fan, definitely come here. The draught beer selection is insane, as is the rest of the selection on offer. You could come back here regularly and still try and new beer every time. Nice feel to the interiors too - it's spacious, with exposed concrete, pool tables and board games. Staff were incredibly helpful and knew their stuff too.
