It may not look like it outside right now, but some heavy thunderstorms are about to roll through NYC this afternoon. Just in case, you know, the intense humidity and ongoing heat wave wasn’t exciting enough for you.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for New York City from noon until 6pm today. Notify NYC sent out the following message regarding the watch this morning:

“Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. If you lose power and have a disability or access needs, or use Life Sustaining Equipment (LSE) and need immediate assistance, please dial 9-1-1.”

The NWS is predicting 2 inches of rain over a few hours with low-lying neighborhoods and areas with poor drainage at the most risk of flooding. Stay safe out there!
