A new Statue of Liberty Museum is coming to Liberty Island

Lady Liberty’s fashion is on point. (If you haven’t noticed, she’s been rocking the caftan trend way before it was cool.)

And her style is probably just one out of the many more realistic reasons why legendary designer Diane Von Furstenberg is investing her time to make Liberty Island better than ever.

DNAinfo reports that Furstenberg is fund raising to build a larger, brand-new Statue of Liberty museum (which is being privately financed). The exhibit would replace the former showcase at the base of the Lady’s pedestal, and would act as a standalone building on the northwest side of the island. As for the setup, you can expect to wander through a gallery, including an exhibition space, and a place to view immersive theater.

This is great news for tourists, considering 4.3 million people visited one of NYC's best attractions last year, and only a small percentage of visitors can squeeze into the current and smaller museum at a time. Considering the new expansion is said to hold 1,000 to 1,200 people an hour, more people will be able to explore one of Gotham's precious treasures. And yes, the Statue of Liberty still remains as one of the NYC tourist attractions locals love
