Broadway star Laura Benanti returns with her killer Melania Trump impression

This week, Broadway star Laura Benanti joined Stephen Colbert to comment on Melania Trump’s recent defense of Donald Trump. We knew she could act from her Tony-nominated performance in She Loves Me, but her return to The Late Show proves she's one of the funniest Broadway stars.

In the segment, Benanti as wannabe–First Lady Melania gives her thoughts on Trump’s recent comments on locker room talk…while clearly reading from cue cards offscreen from a media wrangler. She even resorts to blinking in Morse code to Colbert at one point. It just makes us long for four more years of Michelle Obama in that metallic Versace dress.

We were so innocent back in July when Benanti first nailed her Melania impression, before we realized just how aggravating this election would be. “If only a woman could be president,” Benanti concludes. Just three more weeks.
