Adventure-seeking New Yorkers don't need to travel upstate to experience some outdoor thrills. Instead, take a trip to Manhattan's backyard—Central Park.

On Saturday, June 17, Central Park is hosting an action-packed festival chock-full of free things to do for folks of all ages. The 13-year-old event, called Adventures NYC, transforms the green space into a giant playground. This year, there will be new activities such as zip lining, virtual surfing, Euro bungee and a Gaga pit (the Israeli form of dodge ball).

As usual, you can also go rock climbing, partake in obstacle races, do some yoga, give the mountain bike course a whirl and more. The event occurs at the park's Bandshell (enter at 72nd St for easy access) from 11am to 4pm. Apparently, this event is rain or shine, but let's keep our fingers crossed for decent weather.
