The Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk, a new 5,000-seat venue, is coming to Coney Island this summer. Set to open July 2016, the space promises a full calendar of "concerts, family shows, sports, comedy and multicultural events," booked by Live Nation, which currently presents music at Jones Beach Theater, Irving Plaza and other venues. It'll also be the new home of the annual free Seaside Summer Concert Series.

The venue, which has been in development for a while (partially due to pushback from the local community), incorporates the historic Childs Restaurant into its design. The indoor-outdoor nature of the space means it'll be able to host shows in the winter months as well. The main draw, though, will be those ocean-side summer shows. Now, the reality of seeing an outdoor concert on a balmy summer night seems impossibly far away right now, but it's something to picture in your mind as you slog through slush puddles for the next three months. None of the booking has been announced as of now, but stay tuned.
