Coney Island will get a new concert venue this summer

The Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk

The Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk, a new 5,000-seat venue, is coming to Coney Island this summer. Set to open July 2016, the space promises a full calendar of "concerts, family shows, sports, comedy and multicultural events," booked by Live Nation, which currently presents music at Jones Beach Theater, Irving Plaza and other venues. It'll also be the new home of the annual free Seaside Summer Concert Series.

The venue, which has been in development for a while (partially due to pushback from the local community), incorporates the historic Childs Restaurant into its design. The indoor-outdoor nature of the space means it'll be able to host shows in the winter months as well. The main draw, though, will be those ocean-side summer shows. Now, the reality of seeing an outdoor concert on a balmy summer night seems impossibly far away right now, but it's something to picture in your mind as you slog through slush puddles for the next three months. None of the booking has been announced as of now, but stay tuned.

very excited - and CANNOT WAIT to see those FREE Seaside Summer Concerts again ... except THIS TIME, all of us in the audience won't have to listen to (former) Brooklyn Boro President Marty Markowitz blather on & on & on & on for over an hour about what a wonderful job he is doing .. and how we should meet his sponsors!

D, N, F, Q trains to last stop, Coney Island, Stillwell Avenue.  Won't be too far from the rides and  Luna Park.  FREE annual summer concerts.

i will miss the spontaneous reflexes of the crowd waiting for the raw metal gates to open and talking with regular freebies who knew already who would be appearing next week! I loved that it was big names and the only thing to worry about was getting a parking spot early enough so you got your chairs in to sit close enough to the stage! I guess like back in the 70's, once the word got out for those free concerts at all the parks it eventually became a closed ticket buying venue! Sorry but I'm going to still look for the free concerts🎭🌟

Would have been nice to see where this was specifically located and how one gets there.  Kind of an important piece of information is missing.

Where exactly along the boardwalk will the amphitheater be located?
