Mayor de Blasio signed an executive order this week ensuring that anyone can use restrooms or locker rooms that align with their gender identity in city facilities.

The new regulations apply to single-sex facilities at offices, pools and recreation centers, public parks, playground and some museums. People will be able to use the facility that is consistent with their gender identity without having to show any form of identification or prove their gender.

“Access to bathrooms and other single-sex facilities is a fundamental human right that should not be restricted or denied to any individual,” de Blasio said in a statement. “Every New Yorker should feel safe in our city.”

The order won’t apply to public schools because there’s already a policy in place that New York students must be allowed to use restrooms and locker rooms based on their gender identity.
