Did you know that ConEd will help you connect your air conditioner to your iPhone for free?

No one likes to come home to an oven of an apartment during these hot and humid late August days. That’s why—with New York officially suffering through another heat wave—it’s worth remembering that ConEd will actually help you hook up your window AC unit to your iPhone. For free.

The deal is part of the company’s coolNYC program which helps ease the load on New York’s aging power grid. Customers can head to the website to request up to five free smartAC kits which normally retail for $120 each. The kit plugs in between the wall and the window unit and allows the device to be controlled by an iOS app.

The catch? In order to get the free kit, you’ll have to participate in at least three coolNYC events. During these events, when demand is especially high, the kits will automatically start to save energy by cooling at a higher temperature or by turning on or off. If you don’t participate in at least three events by the end of the summer, you’ll have to return the kits. But it still won’t cost you anything!

If you ask us, that truly is... pretty cool.
