Millions of DJ Khaled’s Snapchat followers have witnessed intimate moments in the recording artist’s life, from a Jet Ski trip gone awry to him whispering “I love you” to flowers and the birth of his son, Asahd. They know to stay away from “they,” the forces that don’t want you to succeed, and scoop up the products he sells, such as sandals emblazoned with BLESS UP. Now, the Miami-based star, whose recent album Major Key hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, promises to give readers the tools for “the journey of success” in his new book, The Keys (now available). Here the media mogul tells us which lessons he’ll teach his son and why you just need to jump in the ocean sometimes.

Would you call The Keys a self-help book?
It’s a motivational book to give you the path to happiness and success and inner peace.

Who are some of your favorite authors?
Arianna Huffington, Tony Robbins and the author of the holy Koran.

When you’re in New York, where do you go?
I love to create music in the studio in New York, and I like to visit Harlem and Brooklyn.

What would you tell people whose “they” is their own family?
Take them to Miami, and tell them to jump in the beautiful ocean water and cleanse off any toxic vibes.

You’re a new dad. What’s the most important thing you’re going to teach your son?
To embrace the blessings of everyday life.

You Snapchatted your son’s birth. Why do you feel so comfortable sharing moments like these with your fans?
A new life coming into this world is a feeling that no words can explain. It was a great way to put love in the world that everyone can embrace.

Is there anything you love more than flowers?
Coconut ice cream.
