Drop Messages app lets you discover free prizes around New York

Wouldn’t it be nice to walk around New York and stumble upon free prizes? Thanks to a new location-based messaging app, that's now a real thing.

To celebrate the end of summer, the folks at Drop Messages have created a scavenger hunt so simple, any New Yorker with an iPhone could win (the app is currently only available for iPhone users).

The app is designed to send you location-based push notifications from your friends and family whenever you hit certain landmarks in New York. For example, do you have that friend who’s always late for dinner plans? Don’t waste your time waiting for the text that reads, “I’m here, where are you?" Just leave them a “drop” for when they arrive at the restaurant. The second they show up, a push notification will let them know you're flirting it up at the bar instead of waiting lonely and impatiently at a table in the back.

For the month of August, though, you'll receive push notifications whenever you're near some awesome prizes. Potential winnings include gift certificates to SoulCycle classes, free swag from Bonobos, Magnolia Bakery cupcakes, a weeks worth of Liquiteria juice and enough Uber credits to keep you smiling during this G Train shutdown.

You can follow Drop Messages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for clues to the prize locations. Happy hunting!
