Today's Make Music New York celebrates the first day of summer with more than 1,200 concerts in public spaces around NYC. From a funk-themed musical walking tour of Harlem to Yeah Yeah Yeahs' drummer Brian Chase jamming on a dozen-plus cymbals in Madison Square Park, there are plenty of interesting, only-in-New York performances to stumble across. In Times Square, 50 guitar teachers—including the Naked Cowboy—will be set up in the plazas along Broadway between West 42nd and 44th Streets from 1–5pm to give guitar lessons to anyone prospective musicians (they'll even have an extra guitar on hand for you to play). You can dig into the full schedule of events in all five boroughs on makemusicny.org.

See highlights from last year's Make Music New York, including a piece commissioned by NPR Music performed in front of the Brooklyn Museum.
