Bust out your seashell bikini and whimsical wig, because when New York's sparkling, glittery, rainbow-filled Mermaid Parade returns to Coney Island on June 17, you can be one of the fabulous marchers. The world's largest art parade, now in it's 35th year, brings together creative revelers from New York and beyond to celebrate the playful spirit of the seaside neighborhood.
This year the nautical-themed tradition will be lead by a particularly special Queen Mermaid and King Neptune, Debbie Harry and Chris Stein of Blondie fame, so you know you'll be in good company. Adults and children alike who want to participate are encouraged to express themselves with hand-made costumes, spectacular body art, intricate make-up and mind-blowing puppets. Really ambitious folks can even enter a motorized float.
While you can register to enter the parade on the day of (adults $35, children $20) you can pre-register here and save $5 for every member of your sea-loving squad.
