This week, lunchtime visitors to Madison Square Park will be able to hear some free improvised music to go with their Shake Shack burgers and dogs. Starting today at 1pm and running through Saturday, July 29, improvisers and composers Graham Lambkin and Joe McPhee are staging a series of performances as part of the green space's Prismatic Park series. The schedule features afternoon sets as well as some tunes later in the day. It all kicks off with a tribute to late composer Pauline Oliveros (who McPhee collaborated with). Get a taste of what McPhee and Lambkin have been up to with an excerpt of their piece "Chance Meeting" below.

Prismatic Park is part of a public art project by artist Josiah McElheny, which brings three large sculptures to the center of the park: a red-and-yellow poetry pavilion, a green circular dance floor and a blue sound wall for music. There are weekly residencies by artists from each discipline, with music programming continuing into the fall with Shelley Hirsch (August 22–27), Matana Roberts (September 5–10) and Limpe Fuchs (October 3–8).
