Meet the Undateables: Aalap and Samantha

Each week, we take two New Yorkers who swear they're totally undateable, and put our matchmaking skills to the test. Afterward, we find out what went well on their date, and what went horribly, horribly wrong.

Our daters went to Pergola (36 W 28th St, 212-679-4842)

First impression
Aalap: “I was nervous, since I knew she’d be reviewing me. But she seemed really nice. She probably fits my type—I have a good track record with Jewish women.”
Samantha: “He was there first. He was really friendly and nice, so that was a relief. My type is a littler taller, though. I’m 5'7" and he was probably the same height.”

Chemistry
Aalap: “I convinced her to smoke hookah, so that was fun. I don’t know if I felt romantic chemistry. I like women who are a little quirky and weird, more on the creative side.”
Samantha: “We had a lot to talk about. He’s a stand-up comedian, which I thought was really cool. I feel like we could be buddies, but as far as chemistry, I don’t think so.”

Awkward Moment
Aalap: “She asked me when my birthday was, which I’ve never had anybody ask me on a date before. Apparently she’s into astrology, but she didn’t tell me what it means.”
Samantha: “He did bring up his ex-girlfriend a bunch of times, saying she was boring and not fun. I was like, Oh, my gosh, am I fun? What does that mean?”

Afterward
Aalap: “We were taking the same train. I said we should exchange numbers and then did a little hug before I got off. I think she follows me on Twitter now, but I don’t really use it.”
Samantha: “We were there for like three hours—for me, that’s long. We took the 6 together, and I told him to invite me to one of his comedy shows. He texted me after the date.”

In three words
Aalap: Samantha is "nice, outgoing and slightly adventurous."
Samantha: Aalap is "friendly, nice and cool."

Verdict
Aalap: ♥♥♥ “The date went well, but it wasn’t amazing. I would say it was like a B. She’s a nice person, but I don’t think there are any romantic possibilities.”
Samantha: ♥♥♥ “It was really fun. If he said, ‘I’d love to take you to dinner,’ I wouldn’t be like, ‘Hell, no.’ But I don’t know if I’d be like, ‘Yay!’ Somewhere in the middle.”
