Each week, we take two New Yorkers who swear they're totally undateable, and put our matchmaking skills to the test. Afterward, we find out what went well on their date, and what went horribly, horribly wrong.

Why they're single:
Chris: Asks himself that every day—it’s probably because he still doesn’t know what he’s looking for
Jacque: Is attracted to bad boys who aren’t the best to date, so gets involved with guys who aren’t good for her

Ideal date:
Chris: Going to a trivia night at a bar
Jacque: Getting drinks, exploring the city, talking and finishing with dessert at a café

THE DATE

First impression
Chris: “I said hello, we did an introductory hug, and I sat down. She looked friendly but did not fit my type—I like someone taller, with glasses—but she was easy to talk to.”
Jacque: “He’s a Southern boy, so he was very sweet, very clean cut. He reminded me of a high school teacher. I really should go for that, but I love a little mystery, a little danger.”

Chemistry
Chris: “We both work in the arts and live in Astoria, so we had a lot to talk about. I thought it went really well. We were both pretty comfortable, which was nice.”
Jacque: “We had really good conversation—it seemed like I had known him for a while. But the whole time, it was like I was just out with a friend. There was no spark, no attraction.”

Awkward Moment
Chris: “She ordered two drinks at once—I thought that was funny. I had to step up my game, so I got a second drink to go with the one I had. I was like, Why didn’t I think of that?”
Jacque: “He was almost 15 minutes late, which isn’t much, but in my head I was like, Could I seriously get stood up on a blind date? It’s happened to me before, so I had that fear.”

Afterward
Chris: “We were like, ‘Good meeting you, best of luck out there in the world.’ I wasn’t interested in something romantic so didn’t want to put forward anything that wasn’t genuine.”
Jacque: “We walked toward the subway, and he was like, ‘All right, I’m going to go meet some bros in the area.’ I was like, ‘Okay, I’m going to head home.’ We hugged and said bye.”

Verdict
Chris: ♥♥♥♥ “There was nothing awkward about the evening. She was delightful, and I had a great time, but for whatever reason, I never felt that special spark.”
Jacque: ♥♥♥♥ “Some dates you leave and think, I wish I’d stayed home. I didn’t feel that. The night was fun, but it won’t go anywhere. I think we both felt the same way.”
