New mall set to open downtown on Tuesday in world’s most expensive train station

Say what you will about the new World Train Center Transportation Hub, but at least it has an Apple Store.

In March, the Oculus—the new World Trade Center Transportation Hub— opened its doors, welcoming puzzled New Yorkers into its mesmerizing, somewhat bizarre interior, which resembles something out of Star Trek. Originally set to open in 2009, the Godzilla-esque structure was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and cost taxpayers $4 billion, making it the world's most expensive train station. With connections to 13 MTA lines and the PATH lines, the station is not expected to bring it too much traffic (an estimated 200,000 passengers in comparison to Penn Station's 600,000), but it is guaranteed to lure in tourists and locals who love shopping.

The Westfield World Trade Center is set to open a whopping 112 stores over the next year, but on Tuesday, it will unveil most of its greatest hits, including H&M, Banana Republic, Aesop, John Varvatos, Kate Spade, Boss Hugo Boss, and, blessedly, a brand new Apple Store.

The stores open on Tuesday at noon as part of the Center's Opening Day festivities, which include a 9/11 commemoration ceremony, a performance by the cast of Broadway's School of Rock, free pasta-making classes at Eataly and more. You can learn more here
