Summer may not be here forever, but it will at least stick around for an extra week this year.

At the urging of City Council, Mayor de Blasio announced this morning that he’s allocated $687,000 to keep New York’s beaches open for seven extra days this year, the first time the beaches will stay open past Labor Day. (Take advantage of those off-season deals, and book a room in the Rockaways for the second weekend of September ASAP.)
At the same, the Mayor also announced that he’s be giving $8.7 million to the Parks Department which will keep them from having to let 150 employees go. Good news all around for New York’s parks today! And for everyone else who just an extra week to work on their beach bod.
