He’s the most famous animal in the city since the pizza rat. Hailing from the south, this rainbow bird arrived in Prospect Park this weekend—and it’s the first of its kind to ever visit Brooklyn.

A male painted bunting, a type of cardinal that typically lives in Arizona and New Mexico, he’s been spotted near the ice-skating rink as recently as this afternoon and typically hides out in woodland shrubs and brush. He’s yet another of the weirdest animal visitors this city’s gotten (remember that tiger in Harlem?).

The park’s LeFrak Center has gotten about 100 visitors a day to see the primary-colored bird. Head over to see him soon—and bring your binoculars.
