Remembering Joan Rivers: The time she invited Time Out into her closet

We're thinking a lot about Joan Rivers, who passed away Thursday in NYC at the age of 81, and one of our favorite moments with the comedy legend happened a couple of years ago. That's when she invited Time Out New York into her Upper East Side apartment and gave us a tour of her closet.

It's no secret that Rivers lived very well. In her 2010 documentary, Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, she admitted that her abode was luxurious. "This is how Marie Antoinette would have lived if she had had money," she says in the film. But, according to Rivers, her closet was just like every other New Yorker's. "My closet is a typical New York City closet, because it's not big," she told us. "No space is wasted in this closet!"

Check out the video, which is full of Joan jokes ("I think I carried this bag when I was dating Moses.") and, and of course, fashion advice. "Fashion should be fun," she told us. "We're all our own Barbie doll. Anyone who takes fashion seriously is a fool."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
