With all the waiting around at the bar that the average New Yorker goes through for a good drink, we'll be the first to notice a quick mixer when we see one. That's why we bet you'll appreciate Speed Rack Season 4 New York: Back to Brooklyn this Sunday at Music Hall of Williamsburg, where 21 of NYC's most badass female bartenders battle it out for the title of Miss Speed Rack New York.
Here's how it works: Contestants will be timed as they recreate drinks from a list of 50 of the industry's most accepted recipes. Their speed and technique will be scrutinized carefully by well-known folks of the cocktail world including author of the Architecture of the Cocktail Amy Zavatto, libation historian and writer Dave Wondrich, founding partner of Beverage Alcohol Resource Steve Olsen and owner of Julie Reiner Flatiron Lounge, Julie Reiner. The winner gets the title, several other gifts and $500 toward travel to the National Finals in New York so she can compete against the other top U.S. bartenders.
It's just $20 to not only witness this bartender-off, but enjoy cocktails and small bites provided by liquor sponsors. And, as Speed Rack has done for the past four years, part of the proceeds of your ticket goes to breast cancer charities worldwide. Speed Rack has already raised $250,000 so far. Make sure you're in the right "spirits" on your way to this "intoxicating" challenge! See what we did there?
