When you think about Coney Island, the words that usually spring to mind might be "hot dogs," "freak show" or "intoxicated teens," but tonight's Poem-a-rama event will be positively literary.

Parachute Literary Arts gives you the chance to ride the towering Wonder Wheel with wonderful poets who will recite a poem to you as you overlook the beach scene at sunset. Several renowned poets, including Penny arcade, Amber Atiya, Kurt Boone and Wanda Phipps, will be on hand to give you a truly memorable amusement park ride. There will also be songs about books sung by Soozie Hwang & the Relastics and a cash bar from Coney Island Brewing Company, chips and salsa from Dos Toros Taqueria and coffee from Brooklyn Roasting Company.

A $20 ticket gets you entry to the event and a ride on the ferris wheel, and $30 gets you entry for two (you can pick them up at will call). Proceeds benefit Parachute Literary Arts' poetry workshops and community poetry libraries in Coney Island.
