Yes the spring has barely arrived (so many shows opening to qualify for the Tony Awards) but we are already thinking of the summer and fall. Here are 10 new plays, musicals and revivals we have on our short list of shows we can wait to see in the next few months.
The Taming of the Shrew
Shakespeare in the Park kicks off with an all-female alfresco production of the Bard’s battle of the sexes. Delacorte Theater. Previews start May 24.
The Cherry Orchard
Chekhov’s final drama returns in a new version by the young and fiercely talented Stephen Karam (on Broadway now with The Humans), produced by Roundabout Theatre Company. American Airlines Theatre. Previews start Sept 8.
Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812
This was one of the best shows of 2012 (pictured above) and now it heads to Broadway in a splashy production starring Josh Groban. Imperial Theatre. Previews start in October.
Love, Love, Love
Mike Bartlett wowed us with King Charles III and this time-tripping play follows a British couple from the Summer of Love in the ’60s to messy present day. Laura Pels Theatre. Previews start Sept 22.
Falsettos
William Finn and James Lapine’s smart, bittersweet musical about a family man who comes out returns to Broadway in a Lincoln Center Theater revival. Walter Kerr Theatre. Previews start Sept 29.
Vietgone
Playwright Qui Nguyen brings his signature irreverence to a love story between refugees from the Vietnam War. Manhattan Theatre Club. Previews start Oct 4.
The Front Page
Tony winner Jack O'Brien stages a Broadway revival of Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur's 1928 comedy about the newspaper racket. Theater TBA. Previews start in September.
The Present

Hello, Dolly!
