The brand-new municipal identification program, which launched this week in New York, offers plenty of benefits for those who sign up for an IDNYC card. Any New York resident over the age of 14 can visit an enrollment center and obtain a card, but the new form of identification will probably benefit a lot of kids as well!

The proof of NYC residency can be used to obtain free memberships at museums, discounts on Broadway tickets and movies, and medicine from local pharmacies at reduced rates. In addition, you can access special deals at health and fitness centers and even get 25% off New York Pass, a citywide pass to 83 tourist attractions.

Here are five perks that you should definitely take advantage of once you snag a card, especially if you have kids at home too young to get one of their own.

Brooklyn Children’s Museum One-Year Membership

The first-ever museum created specifically for children when it was founded in 1899, the Brooklyn Children’s Museum is offering IDNYC cardholders a one-year Dual Membership. That means you’ll get free admission into the museum for you, plus one child. You can also beat the crowds with Member Express entry on weekends and school holidays, and have access to exclusive member-only events. Any additional guest per visit will only cost $5.

Discount on a YMCA Membership

Your IDNYC card will give you access to Y Roads young adult centers and New American Welcome Centers courtesy of the YMCA. The card will also entitle you to 20% off of a family membership at all 22 YMCAs citywide.

American Museum of Natural History New York Membership

The kid-friendly halls of the city’s premiere natural history museum will be open to you for free with the one-year New York Membership offered to cardholders. The program offers free general admission to the American Museum of Natural History, along with four additional guests under the age of 18 when accompanied by the cardholder. In addition, you’ll also receive complimentary tickets to the Giant Screen Films shown in the LeFrak Theater and a 15% discount in the Museum food court.

New York library access

You can use your IDNYC card at any public library in New York, and it can even double as a library card to check out materials. It’s the first time that a single card has been accepted at all three New York public library systems: New York, Brooklyn and Queens, and will provide easy access to tons of family-friendly events at branches across all five boroughs.

Wildlife Conservation Society Municipal ID Membership

The world’s largest system of urban wildlife parks is offering a special membership program that will give you free access to the Bronx Zoo, New York Aquarium, Central Park Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo and Queens Zoo. It will also provide a 10% discount on items purchased from gift shops and restaurants and discounts on education programs. You can activate the city-wide membership by presenting your card at the Bronx Zoo.
