The best food truck in New York is...

By Dan Q Dao

...Snowday Food Truck! As part of the past weekend of extreme eating and drinking, the annual street-food grand slam Vendy Awards awarded its coveted Vendy Cup to Snowday—last year's Rookie of the Year winner who now takes home a double whammy with the People's Choice trophy as well. A hard-fought Governors Island showdown pitted the truck's maple-infused grilled cheeses against the likes of hand-pulled Cantonese noodles from Sunset Park's Guandong Cheong Fun and juicy Greek meat skewers from the legendary Souvlaki Lady in Astoria.

Posted up every weekend on Governors Island and certain Sundays at Prospect Park, Snowday infuses local, New York State-syrup in savory-sweet creations—ranging from those sourdough-cheddar sandwiches to braised beef-neck sliders and smoked pork ribs with maple chimichurri. The truck is the first project by the non-profit Drive Change NYC—hiring, training and employing formerly incarcerated youth in mobile food vendors. See photos from the event below and learn more about Snowday here
