The sixth day of NYC’s heat wave brings 89 percent humidity and thunderstorms

Remember when we said yesterday that the heat wave was ending? Yeah, that’s not true. The high today is only 88 degrees, but an 89 percent humidity level means that it feels like it’s really 104 degrees out there. That’s less than Saturday’s summertime high of 96 degrees (which actually felt like 110), but still enough to turn summer into hell.  

A heat advisory is in effect until 10pm tonight, and the city will finally get relief when scattered thunderstorms start at 9pm. Afterward, expect a much-needed break from the humidity and standing in pools of sweat on the subway. We’re so close to escaping the air mass
